Cookie Policy

Update : March 2026

Respect for your privacy is extremely important to us. At Business France, we apply the core principles set out in our privacy policy: https://welcome.businessfrance.fr/en/personal-data/

  • We do not ask you for personal information unless we truly need it.
  • We do not sell your personal information to third parties for commercial purposes.
  • We process your personal information with the utmost respect for security and privacy.

This Cookie Policy is intended to inform you about the origin and use of browsing information collected when you visit our website (https://welcome.businessfrance.fr/en/).

Business France provides tools to enable you to express your cookie preferences.

A “cookie” (or browser cookie) is a small text file that may be stored on your computer, tablet, or smartphone (the “Device”) when you visit a website or use a mobile application, via your web browser. A cookie file allows its issuer to identify the Device on which it is stored, for the duration of the cookie’s validity or storage period.

Some cookies are essential for using the Business France website or for providing the Services offered by Business France. In this case, they are placed on your Device systematically.

Other cookies help optimize and personalize the content or features displayed on the Business France website. Their placement and reading on your Device depend on the choices you make on our website.

2. What is a “tracker”?

The term “tracker” refers to an identifier stored on your Device without the involvement of the web browser, which may be emitted by the Device and read by a technical service provider to which the Device is connected, even though that identifier was not itself placed on the Device by that provider. In practice, “tracker” most often refers to an identifier of your Device managed by its operating system. This is particularly true for mobile device identifiers, whose accessibility or readability may be managed differently by the relevant operating system depending on whether you use an Android device (often called an “Android ID” or “AAID”) or iOS (often called “IDFA” or “ID for Advertiser”), or another operating system.

3. Who places and reads cookies?

Cookies placed on your Device from the Business France website may be placed or read by Business France or by third parties. Cookies placed or read by Business France are primarily related to the operation of the Business France website. Others are “third-party” cookies placed or read by our partners. Business France ensures that our partners’ use of cookies complies with applicable regulations. Only the issuer of a cookie is able to read or modify the information contained in it.

4. What types of cookies do we use?

When you visit our websites, we always use strictly necessary and functional cookies for the purposes described below.

With your consent, we also use cookies for marketing purposes. When we collect personal data about you via cookies, we process it for the purposes set out in our Privacy Policy.

Please note that if you opt out, Business France will no longer be able to measure and improve its website as effectively. In addition, Business France conducts broader audience measurement when the user has consented to this additional purpose.

5. What are your rights?

All rights described in the Privacy Policy also apply to you. In accordance with applicable regulations, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act (“Informatique et Libertés”) of January 6, 1978 as amended, you may exercise your rights using the following form: https://dpo.businessfrance.fr/en

You have the following rights:

  • The right to access your data that we hold about you.
  • The right to rectify your personal data if you find it is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • The right to have your personal data erased when it is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, subject to legal obligations that may require us to retain it. Where we have no ongoing legal basis to continue processing your personal data, we will make reasonable efforts to comply with your request.
  • The right to receive your data and transfer it to a third party in a format determined by our technical capabilities (right to data portability).
  • The right to restrict the processing of your personal data under certain conditions, in accordance with Article 18 of the GDPR (for example, when you contest the accuracy of your personal data). This right does not result in the deletion of your data.
  • The right to object to the processing of your personal data where it is based on our legitimate interests. You also have the right to object to the processing of your personal data for direct marketing purposes. We are required to investigate your request within a reasonable timeframe and take appropriate action. Except for purposes for which we are confident we may continue processing your personal data, we will temporarily stop processing your data in accordance with your objection until we have investigated the matter. If we determine your objection is justified, we will permanently stop using your data for those purposes. Otherwise, we will provide our justification for why we must continue using your data.
  • The right to object to any decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, that produces legal effects or significantly affects you.
  • The right to define instructions regarding the retention, deletion, and disclosure of your personal data after your death.
  • The right to withdraw your consent at any time where you have consented to the collection, processing, and transfer of your personal data. Once we receive notice that you have withdrawn your consent, we will no longer process your information for the purposes you initially agreed to, unless we have another lawful basis to do so. If you withdraw your consent, our prior use of your personal data remains lawful.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL), 3 Place de Fontenoy, 75007 Paris, France, or directly via www.cnil.fr , if you believe your data protection rights are not being respected.

The rights described above do not apply in all situations. In accordance with applicable regulations, the way we process your personal data and the legal basis on which we rely may affect the extent to which these rights apply.

Please note that under the GDPR, we may extend the one-month deadline to respond by an additional two months where we believe your request is complex or numerous. We may need to ask you for specific information to help confirm your identity and ensure your right of access to the information (or to exercise any of your other rights). This is an appropriate security measure to ensure personal data is not disclosed to anyone who is not entitled to receive it.

We remain at your disposal for any additional information.

You can change your cookie preferences for marketing cookies or withdraw your consent at any time by opening “Cookie management” at the bottom of every page of the website. If you previously gave us your consent but wish to delete the cookies we placed, you may do so by deleting them through your browser or your device settings.
